WITNESS SERIES

This ceramic sculpture presents a mounted ram’s head, its form emerging from the frame like a quiet sentinel. It initially echoes the visual language of a traditional hunting trophy, yet that familiarity is disrupted by a subtle mutation: extra eyes embedded in unexpected places—at the base of a horn, along the throat. These multiplied gazes transform the ram into something beyond natural, a being of heightened awareness.

The ram carries deep symbolic weight—long associated with sacrifice, provision, and substitution, as well as strength, leadership, and divine encounter. Here, those meanings are not discarded but expanded. The animal becomes both offering and witness, both symbol of power and of surrender. Its many eyes suggest not only vigilance, but a burden: the inability to look away. The ram, historically tied to moments of intervention and exchange, now stands in a different role: not replacing harm, but observing it. Its gaze meets the viewer with a quiet insistence.

Suspended between reverence and unease, the piece invites reflection on our relationship to the natural world. The ram does not accuse, but it does not absolve. It simply sees—holding within it the tension of beauty, sacrifice, and the weight of what is witnessed.

Throughout history, horses have served as sacred emblems of power, status, and wealth. They symbolize physical might, vitality, and nobility, while also embodying the untamed spirit, raw energy, and the desire to break free from constraint. In this work, those associations are complicated by the horse's multiplied eyes. The animal does not simply possess strength or freedom; it is burdened with perception. It sees too much.

Frozen between resistance and revelation, the horse becomes both a symbol of power and a witness to it—alert, watchful, and unable to look away.

At first glance it recalls a traditional hunting trophy, but the familiarity is unsettled by a startling mutation: two eyes cluster on one side of the head, while additional eyes open along the curve of the neck. These multiplied gazes transform the animal into something hyper-aware, alert beyond the limits of nature. As the first work in The Witness Series, this goose becomes one of “the Watchers” — beings who cannot close their eyes to the devastation humans inflict upon the environment. Suspended between beauty and unease, it confronts viewers with the feeling of being seen, implicated, and remembered.
